I was nominated for a https://darrellawards.wordpress.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Darrell Award for my short story, 'Sentry', in The Idolator's of Cthulu. It was really wonderful to hear that! A friend of mine, Kathryn Sullivan , congratulated me on Facebook. I had not even heard yet! I went and checked on the site and there I was - wheeeee!
The only terrible part of it was waiting until MidSouthCon to find out if I had won or not. That was two weeks of waiting - argh! Still, I arrived at the con and sat on panels like I was invited to do. All the while a bundle of nerves. Don't get me wrong, I did not expect to win. I was in competition with Robert J Krog, Victor Lothos, and Cat Rambo. All of them previous Darrell Award winners. I am also familiar with Mr Krog's writings, and I consider him to be a superb storyteller. My delight was that, after 20 years of writing, I was a Final Five selection. It was a rush just to be there.
So imagine my astonishment when I heard my name called as the First Runner Up in the short story category!
I was floored and excited, and I practically did a little girl dance up the aisle to the podium. Yes, me. A 40-year old mother of two giddy as a school girl. I don't even remember what I said, other than a lot of Thank You's!
Am I more motivated than ever to get those stories out now - so I best get to it.
